ATLAS/LHC consolidation is ready

Hi all, After several months of extensive testing, we are now ready to complete the move to [Link] LHC@Home! The ATLAS app is now out of beta so we encourage you to start crunching ATLAS tasks on LHC. We do not plan to submit any more tasks to ATLAS@Home. As stated earlier, credit will not be lost! We will move all the credit accumulated here to LHC@Home once all the remaining tasks are finished. To make this easier it would be very helpful if your email address you register with is the same on both projects, since this is the only way to match the accounts on each project. In the LHC project preferences you can select which apps to run, so if you want to only run ATLAS then check the ATLAS box only. There is an [Link] updated version of Yeti's checklist available, so please check this if you experience problems. There is also a [Link] dedicated message board for ATLAS. Thank you for your crunching on ATLAS@Home over the years and we look forward to continued crunching on LHC!

ATLAS/LHC@Home consolidation

Hi all, As you may know we are working on putting all LHC-related projects under the combined LHC@Home project. The idea is to provide a single entry point for everyone who wants to participate in helping CERN research. We have now set up a beta app for ATLAS on LHC@Home so we invite you to try it and provide feedback on the [Link] ATLAS message board. You need to enable beta apps in your project preferences to get these WU. Currently the WU there are just for tests and we don't use the results but soon we will proceed with real WU. Once everything is working well there we will ask everyone to migrate over to LHC@Home and stop sending work to the ATLAS@Home project. Credit will not be lost! We will move all the credit accumulated here to LHC@Home once all the remaining tasks are finished. To make this easier it would be very helpful if your email address you register with is the same on both projects, since this is the only way to match the accounts on each project. New single-core tasks

Thanks for all your feedback on the future of the single-core app. We have seen that it is useful to keep it, especially for less experienced volunteers who don't want to write xml files to configure how many tasks to run. Therefore we are directing some of the multicore WU into the single core app. These WU will use only one core but process the same number of events (100) as the multicore WU, so will run for a few hours longer than the previous single-core WU. We have also cancelled the remaining single-core WU which were faulty or stuck on non-responding hosts. Apologies if you were actively crunching one of those. In addition we have applied the same restrictions to the single-core app as we have on the multicore app: the minimum version of virtualbox required is 5.0.0 and there is a check that virtualisation is possible on your PC before sending WU. So if you have an old virtualbox or a PC not configured for virtualisation then you will not receive any more WU. Please see [Link] Yeti's checklist for more information in case of problems. Single core tasks finished

You may have noticed that there are no single core tasks left in the queue. This is deliberate as part of our aim to simplify things by having a single app which is multicore only. We know that there are people who like to run only single-core WU but it is possible to run multicore WU in a single-core mode through the use of [Link] app_config.xml. (set <avg_ncpus>1</avg_ncpus>) This is not a perfect solution so if there are serious objections to deprecating the single core app we can do some tricks to send multicore WU to the single core app which will then run in single-core mode. Please let us know what you think.
